The trends for the nation as a whole looked good as of Sunday May, 10. 20,329 new cases were reported Sunday. That’s down from 27,348, the previous Sunday. 25,524 cases were reported Saturday, May 9, down from 29,744 the previous Saturday.
Weekend reporting is lower than weekday. 29,162 new cases were reported Friday, down from 36,007, the previous Friday.
The total number of new cases reported this weekend was 75,015, down from 93,099, the previous weekend, for a drop of 18,084 or 24%.
Like the reported confirmed infection rate, the death rate has been falling.
750 deaths were reported on Sunday May 10. That’s down from 1,153 the prior Sunday. 1,422 deaths were reported Saturday, down from 1,691 the previous Saturday. 1,687 deaths were reported on Friday May 8. That’s down from 1,897 on Friday, May 1.
However, there’s a wide variance among US states. Most of the improvement is attributed to the densely populated northeastern states that were the worst hit, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, where lockdowns remain in place.

For comparative purposes here are 3 states where lockdowns have been lifted, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama. Stay at home orders were lifted in these states on April 30. Some restrictions remain in place. The incubation period for COVID19 is 5-14 days.
