Crypto Goes for Woke

Well, I honestly don’t have much of an opinion about crypto either way, but frankly, I’d be concerned at this point……………I offer you this news item:

Actresses Gwyneth PaltrowReese Witherspoon and Mila Kunis have a new message of empowerment for women: They say it’s time to embrace crypto.

See, this is the kind of goofy celebrity-hyping nonsense that marks tops. When people who are famous for doing other things (like acting, or doing the voice of Meg on Family Guy, or selling vagina-scented candles) start to trot out high-risk investments – – particularly to affinity groups – – you know there’s trouble ahead.

…they call for women to do their research and enter the arena. The time is now, they say, to develop a sisterhood of crypto enthusiasts.

A sisterhood. Of crypto enthusiasts. What does that even mean? And what kind of “research” do they expect these people to do? I mean, it’s obviously a hall pass to make sure that no one can successfully sue these women for promoting insanely risky ideas, but if we take them at their word, what would “research” constitute?

Oh, but there’s more…………

“We have watched a lot of these bros get together and earn a lot of money,” Ms. Paltrow, the actress and founder of lifestyle brand Goop, recently told an online audience of 5,000 people in an event by BFF, a cryptocurrency social community targeting women and nonbinary people.

This is really starting to check all the “woke” boxes. The message is anti-male. Pro-women. And, umm, non-binary. But at least they’ve chosen a name (BFF) that resonates with the mentality of children in middle school (for those unfamiliar with it, the letters stand for Best Friends Forever).

Incidentally, the famous trio above isn’t the one who financially backed BFF. That distinction belongs to Brit Morin, shown below, who married a wealthy early employee of Facebook and decided to become a venture capitalist with some of that mountain of money she married into.

I’d also like to point out the message on that shirt: Girls Support Girls. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose, but aren’t these the same people that say gender doesn’t matter, or that there’s no such thing as gender? If that’s the case, why all of a sudden are these females pandering to other females based specifically on their gender? Added to which, what’s with all this girl power stuff at a conference where you are targeting “non-binary” humans?

It all sounds like a giant crock of horseshit to your host, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was simply another historical footnote marking the demise of the entire asset space.
