Despite Covid-19 restrictions, many Americans are planning to press on and celebrate Valentine’s Day regardless. This year, the National Retail Federation has forecast total spending in the U.S. will reach $21.8 billion, though that does represent a considerable decline on the $27.4 billion recorded in 2020.
Individual spending is expected to amount to $164.76, still relatively high considering that many restaurants remain shuttered. Last year, the average American celebrating Valentine’s Day parted with $196.31 just before the pandemic hit. Even though a romantic night at a restaurent “will be off the menu” for many couples, the NRF still expects plenty of spending on a range of items such as flowers, chocolates, cards and jewelry.
