Shawinigan Cataractes win Memorial Cup – WSJ.com

SHAWINIGAN, Quebec — Anton Zlobin scored his second goal of the game 17:51 into overtime to give the Shawinigan Cataractes their first Memorial Cup title, 2-1 over the London Knights on Sunday night.

Zlobin took a pass from behind the net from captain Michael Bournival and drilled a quick shot past goalie Michael Houser in the major junior hockey finale.

Zlobin tied it in the second period after Ryan Rupert scored in the first for the Ontario Hockey League champion Knights.

Shawinigan is my second home, where I’m heading this week. Congrats to the Cataractes,  to Shawinigan and its rabid fans, among whom number many of our friends and relatives. This is a big deal in the small towns across Canada, posted on the front sport pages of metropolitan daily newspapers across Canada, and big enough news to share with you on a  US holiday weekend, which I hope you are enjoying!   – Lee Adler
