The public comment period on the commodities position limits proposal of Dodd-Frank is coming to an end. Comments must be submitted by March 28th. Position limits will be instituted in some form over commodities contracts and their “economically equivalent” derivatives. The establishment of these limits–as I read it–may also take into account positions held on foreign exchanges. (Wow!) Whether or not these rules will have teeth to them….who knows, but I think anyone concerned about rampant speculation in the commodities markets owes it to themselves and to everyone else to leave a comment in support of very strong position limits.
