News commentator Keith Olbermann has been terminated by MSNBC.

Friday night was his last appearance.

In a tersely worded press statement released by MSNBC, the cable giant, now owned by Comcast, said,“MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of ‘Countdown with Keith Olbermann’ will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC’s success and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Olbermann’s himself was first make the announcement. At the end of Friday night’s show, he said the program would be his last.

Olbermann thanked viewers for their enthusiastic support and members of his staff who had “fought” along side him throughout the years.

The news came two months after the TV commentator was suspended for contributing to Democratic candidates without getting permission from his bosses, which is company policy.
