Readers in comments and via e-mail noted that there seems to be national coordination on the crackdowns. This message came from reader Deontos:

Twitter chatter in #occupy is that local police are now on FEDERAL payroll in a number of municipalities and god knows WHO they are taking orders from. It sure has the appearance of coordinated action nationwide.

I do NOT have confirmation of the Twitter chat, so any reader intelligence is welcome.

Update 3:40 AM: Mike check: people in the kitchen were teargassed, wrestled to the ground and are being arrested individually. The others are being kept far enough away behind barricades to prevent images being captured. The live feed reports that people are being dragged out by their arms and legs. The police have learned to prevent video capture of their actions so as to prevent backlash. Bye bye free press.

The world would experience terrible natural disasters, and only the chosen ones would survive.

Well, he was wrong.

But Camping is back, and he's sure the world will actually end October 21, and this time it will end quietly.

He hasn't told us a specific time for the world to end, so we gathered up a bunch of live webcams so you can tune in to see what's going on where.

(The end-of-worlders say that God's going to respect time zones, and make the end of the world a rolling thing, so if we see it happening in Europe, we'll have some time to prepare).

The doomsayer who swore that the world was going to end on May 21, Harold Camping, is doubling down.

Last spring, you'll recall, Camping predicted that "The Rapture" would arrive as a series of rolling earthquakes beginning at precisely 6PM on May 21.

God was well aware of time zones, Camping said, and therefore understood that 6PM was a rolling event around the world. This allowed us to establish links to live web-cams, so our readers could watch the world end in real-time, starting in Auckland, New Zealand.

Of course, the world didn't end. But, despite suffering a stroke in June, Camping isn't backing down. Last spring, he quickly admitted to some disappointment that the world hadn't ended, but immediately changed his forecast to October 21. And now he says that the rapture did, in fact, commence on May 21, it's just that no one noticed.

For anyone interested in such things, this my experience

When my new computer arrived, I bought windows 7 in an unconscious, automaton type way.
Then, while trying to troubleshoot my old dead windows box, I used linux to run some hardware tests. I was surprised at how easy it was to use.
I have just finished the set up and install of Ubuntu 11.04 and it was not what I would call easy but neither was it overwhelming ( thank god for google).
Checking to make sure the hardware is supported by linux makes life much easier.
The longest part of the install was the wireless internet, followed by the Outlook & Quicken migration.
Word docs and Excel SSs were a breeze.

So I returned Windows 7 and I won't be buying MS Office & a new Quicken.
I am using Libre Office (Evolution to replace Outlook)
KMyMoney in place of Quicken

So far, I am quite happy with the new setup

Paul has five meinutes and all he can do is pontificate about the dollar for 3 1/2 minutes and finally ask Bernanke: "What is your definition of a dollar?" Interestingly, Bernanke replies, "That's a veery qood question you ask, Congressman". Translated: "Thanks for fielding me yet another of your famous softballs..."

Look, I have serious doubts about Ron Paul. He's not the sharpest tack in the box. I understand that. He's probably a brilliant obstetrician but medical school does not translate into the study of economics. The truth is he's always seemed to me to know very little about economics and certainly not enough to spar effectively with Bernanke which, I believe, is why he always only dares ask Bernanke a question right at the end of his five minutes each time in Congress. He knows he probably could not counterargue Bernanke's response without looking stupid and he doesn't want to take the risk.

This was what I used to (and continue to) think. But I now believe something else. I think Paul is not genuinely interested in changing anything. He's the nearest thinkg to a stooge that you can get wihtout actually being one. He never gives Bernanke any trouble. His 'end-the-Fed' jargon is toothless and appears more and more like posturing to me. I am becoming deeply suspicious of him and God knows, I contributed enough money to his presidential campaign. I used to think he just wasn't up to the job. I am now beginning to believe that he's set himself up as the straw man and that his motives are not what they seem.

Any ideas?
