The beauty of UN Agenda 21 is that Big Government collects lots more taxes that they can spend on their Big Business friends. That is why it is so instructive to watch Monsanto, the agricultural chemical behemoth that has long been a great partner with rural farmers, turn on its base and join the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Monsanto is now aligned with 200 major banks, oil companies, and other powerful corporate players committed to implementing the United Nations Marxist scheme to expropriate rural land and eliminate the suburbs by moving these unwashed masses to the cities where their independent voting can be cancelled out.
Monsanto Company is headquartered in the Missouri heartland. The company’s history is not exactly a pillar of the environmentalist community. Starting business a hundred years ago producing saccharin artificial sweetener for Coca-Cola; by mid-century they were manufacturing polystyrene and other synthetic plastic fibers; and after World War II they became wildly successful pumping out huge quantities of environmentally toxic DDT insecticides, Agent Orange defoliants, artificial hormones for chemically fatten cattle and cancer causing PCBs.
But in the late 1990s, Monsanto divested most of its commercial chemical operations to focus on biotechnology. Since then, the company has been a prime target of the “greenies” as the world’s leader in producing genetically modified organisms, seeds and food crops. A recent article about these “Frankenfoods” in the New Internationalist Magazine slammed the company’s activities: “What would you think if I said that your dinner resembles Frankenstein, an unnatural hodgepodge of alien ingredients? Fish genes are swimming in your tomato sauce, microscopic bacterial genes in your tortillas, and your veg curry has been spiked with viruses.”
Given the controversial nature of GMO industrial agriculture, Monsanto has been moving to form sustainable partnerships with government regulators. Former Iowa’s Governor Tom Vilsack, whom Monsanto named “Biotech Governor of the Year,” is now the United States Secretary of Agriculture and Michael Taylor, former Monsanto V.P. and attorney/lobbyist, is the current FDA Food Safety Czar.
The beauty of Genetically Modified Organisms is that since they could never have been formed in nature, they are patentable compounds. Over the last few years, Monsanto has been litigating famers, agricultural coops and competitors to enforce huge royalties on its GMO patents here and around the world. August of last year, Monsanto won a $1 billion award against DuPont Company for patent infringement on its genetically modified soybeans. The Federal jury award was the fourth biggest patent verdict in U.S. history.
The home page of the WBCSD website features lots of pictures of windmills, bike paths and impoverished third world peasants. But digging deep into the website site illuminates that 200 CEOs have embraced UN Agenda 21, because there is great money to be made in teaming with Big Government.
WBCSD states that its’ membership is willing to work building better and more innovative alliances with key stakeholders to support effective action. These are crony capitalist code words for we are ready to make serious political contributions for a piece of the huge new taxes that embedded in complying with UN Agenda 21.
Prominently featured on the WBCSD website is: “Accountants Will Save the World”, a Harvard Business Review presentation from last year’s United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio, known as Rio+20. The speech argued for changing accounting to value “social capital” to “ensure that corporate reporting makes clear how a company is making its money, not just how much money it has made.” Abandonment of capitalist profit motive dovetails nicely with the Communist Manifesto’s first demand: Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes. But this abolition concept may not be attractive to farmers, who hold most of the world’s land.
Monsanto’s switching teams is just the latest example of how Big Business is acknowledging that Big Government is where the big money is. As the WBCSD annual report highlights, together multinational corporations can “influence the global sustainability agenda, rather than be shaped by it.”
